ISO 9001 for manufacturers

ISO 9001:2015 is the international standard for a quality management system (QMS). For manufacturers it is often a customer or contract requirement, and it is the backbone of consistent, auditable quality.

Context

Why it matters for manufacturing

Buyers and primes frequently require ISO 9001 certification from their suppliers. Beyond the badge, a working QMS reduces defects, scrap, and returns by making quality a managed process rather than firefighting.

Priorities

What to focus on

01

A process-based QMS (clauses 4 to 10)

ISO 9001:2015 is built on the process approach and organized in clauses 4 through 10: context, leadership, planning, support, operation, performance evaluation, and improvement. It is a system, not a binder.

02

Nonconformity and corrective action

When something goes wrong, you record the nonconformity, contain it, investigate root cause, and take corrective action (CAPA), then verify the action worked. That loop is the heart of the standard.

03

Internal audits and management review

A conforming QMS runs an internal audit programme and periodic management reviews. Keel runs both on every plan, including Free, with the evidence trail an auditor expects.

Do it once, not twice

Keel is built on one crosswalked control library, so a control you implement for ISO 9001 counts toward every other framework it satisfies. Add a second framework later and it mostly reuses this work. See the crosswalk explorer for the exact overlap.

Common questions

How does Keel help with ISO 9001?

Most of the ISO 9001 loop ships on every plan, including Free: nonconformities with CAPA, 8D and an effectiveness gate, internal audits and the audit programme, management reviews, objectives and KPIs, competence, and documented information. Security-awareness training is on every paid plan. The Keel Quality add-on is $149/mo per workspace and unlocks the product-quality modules on top of that: the Quality dashboard, nonconforming outputs, supplier quality and SCARs, complaints and feedback, and change control. It is self-serve, and each workspace is its own subscription.

Can we run ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 together?

Yes. Manufacturers increasingly need both quality and information security. Keel runs your QMS and ISMS on one control-and-evidence graph, so they stop being two disconnected systems.
